Vaginal Odour

Vaginal Odour - Like it or not you have to accept that the vagina will always have a presence of an odour. What you do not have to accept is when the vaginal odour turns into a strong repulsive stink. Just because the vagina is out of sight does not mean you neglect it in the cleansing department. Hygiene involving the private parts is most important to help stem the problem of an embarrassing smell.

You have to treat the vaginal area like any other part of the body. For instance: why a person suffers from bad breath is mainly due to food particles and debris not being cleaned from in between the teeth. Well this goes for the vagina too, where the cleaning process should take place on the inside as well as on the outside to stem vaginal odour.

Even though titled smelly vagina, the vagina itself is an odourless organ and does not generate a smell, however without bathing, bacteria and foreign parasites can inhabit the vagina hence causing a smelly vagina.
It is hard to prevent bacteria build up or foreign parasites from entering the vagina but you can most certainly help to control the problem, Young girls and women ask the same most common question “Why does my vagina smell” or “I wash regular and I still can smell a horrible stink” This is perfectly normal, but as stated earlier it will all depend on what type of odour it is and what is actually causing it. All types of bacteria, parasites, yeasts and any other foreign aliens inside the vagina generate odours through waste or by product therefore causing distinctive odours. Common smells emitted from this orifice is normally explained as a type of fishy smell.

Bacterial vaginosis can be the cause of the ‘fishy’ odour from the vagina, it can be a very embarrassing infection if not treated. Naturally a woman’s vagina does not have a repulsive smell. Menstruation does not smell bad but will if left un-washed for over a long period of time, Some female body smells can be sexually arousing. Bad odours could be due to infection. Talk to your doctor if you have any concerns on the matter. There are many medications i.e. creams and lotions you can use to rid vaginal smells but you need to be very careful when using products around this very sensitive area of the body.

Smelly vagina and the facts you need to know about why you should avoid chemicals?. The vagina is self cleaning so needs no help unless an infection is present, in which time a doctors prescription should be obtained. The vulva when cleansing, needs nothing more than water. Certain products contain chemicals and if these come in contact with the vulva it can strip the vulva of its natural oils leaving it dry and often irritated, also more prone to infections such as yeast infections. Chemicals can also potentially find their way into the urethra causing urinary tract infections. Not all products will be of the destructive type but always consult your doctor before using over the counter medications. Chemical based products in the vagina can disrupt the natural PH of the vagina which causes an overgrowth of anaerobic bacteria, genital mycoplasmas, and gardnerella vaginalis, with reduced or absent lactobacilli. More information on this can be found online. Never ignore unusal behaviours or sightings in or around the vagina, meaning change in colour of discharge, the amount you lose and texture..

All of these are natural happenings in the vagina however when bacterial growth is effected this causes bacterial vaginosis, symptoms of which include that bad ‘fish’ odour we spoke of earlier and therefore causing excessive discharge. Any vaginal discomfort when going to the toilet i.e. a painful pee or wee wee (urine) should always be checked out for fear that a vaginal infection is present. An infection causing you to have a smelly vagina can be treated with proper prescribed medication from your doctor. Do not be embarrassed to talk to your GP of your condition. What is more embarrassing, telling your doctor who can remedy the matter or have your friends turn up their nose every time you sit up close.
